Personalized nutrition counseling for busy women
My Approach
I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with 20+ years of experience and thousands of successful female clients. I’ve written several diet and nutrition books and my advice has been featured in major media outlets worldwide.
Most diet plans fail because they do not address the behavioral aspects of eating and why we make poor food choices in the first place. It’s easy to make good choices when you’re in your bubble but what happens when you are at a restaurant? On vacation? At a party? Entertaining clients? Drinking alcohol? I work with you one-on-one and develop a plan that’s 100% personalized to your lifestyle, preferences, and tastes and I teach you how to confront your food triggers head-on. Then I back that up with expert coaching, guidance, and compliance monitoring to get you to your goal and stay there for good.
Here’s what to expect:
1
Personalized Plan
I create a plan that’s all yours! Custom built around your specific tastes, preferences, and lifestyle.
2
Weekly Check-Ins
We meet weekly via video or voice to modify the plan and to keep you motivated and tracking toward your goals.
3
Daily Accountability & Support
I hold you accountable to the plan through daily food journaling. You can also text me to ask questions like “I’m going to restaurant X tonight. What should I order?”

-
Perfect for: Women who need a basic/generic plan and limited support from a provider with an average of 3-5 years of experience
What You Get:
Typically limited, one-size-fits-all plans based on standard guidelines.
Appointments often last 15 minutes, with minimal follow-up or accountability.
A lower-cost option for those with insurance coverage.
Advantages:
Can be cost-effective if covered by insurance.
Access to credentialed dietitians.
Drawbacks:
Generic advice: Plans may not be tailored to your unique lifestyle or challenges.
Limited support between sessions—often no real-time coaching or guidance.
Time constraints: Sessions are often short and focused on meeting insurance requirements rather than your long-term goals.
May require referrals or insurance approval, adding to the hassle.
Providers typically have an average of 5 years of experience
-
Perfect for: Individuals looking for a medical solution to jumpstart weight loss, particularly those with obesity-related health concerns.
What You Get:
A pharmaceutical approach that suppresses appetite and promotes weight loss.
Results that are often quick and noticeable in the short term.
Advantages:
Effective for reducing appetite and initiating weight loss.
May be covered by insurance for certain individuals.
Drawbacks:
Side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fatigue are common.
High cost: If not covered by insurance, medications can cost thousands of dollars annually.
Weight often returns after stopping the medication unless lifestyle changes are made.
Does not address emotional eating, habits, or triggers, leading to potential relapse.
Requires ongoing prescriptions and doctor visits

My books
Bread is the Devil
Stop mindlessly inhaling the breadbasket and stop shoveling in the M&M'S–Bread is the Devil is the solution to all of our diet saboteurs.
Nutritionist Heather Bauer can count on the fingers of one hand the number of her clients who don't already know what they should eat to lose weight. So why can’t they (and their best friend and their neighbor) lose weight? Because Bread is the Devil! Yes, that's Bauer’s shorthand for the inevitable, demonic pull that certain bad habits exert on people who try to change their eating routines to drop the pounds.
The Wall Street Diet

Heather Bauer knows there aren't enough hours in the day for you to focus on the details of a complicated weight loss plan. A registered dietitian with a thriving practice in New York City, her clients have high-pressure jobs in high-profile fields: CEOs, Wall Street brokers, producers, doctors, lawyers, editors--fast-track workers at every level. These time-starved professionals don't have time to count calories or weigh food, but with Bauer's breakthrough weight loss plan they've been able to shed their extra pounds and enjoy a healthy new lifestyle.
FAQs
What makes you and your program different?
My program goes far beyond the typical nutrition counseling experience. I offer highly personalized, one-on-one coaching that is tailored specifically to your lifestyle, preferences, and goals. Unlike other programs, I am intimately involved in your journey, providing ongoing support through our scheduled appointments and between appointments via text and daily food logging/accountability monitoring (I know that sounds weird but it works!). This means that I'm available to answer your questions, help you make real-time decisions when possible, and guide you every step of the way, ensuring that you have the tools and encouragement you need to succeed. My approach is not just about providing a meal plan—it's about creating a sustainable, enjoyable, and realistic path to achieving your long-term goals.
Oh, and I also have 20 years of experience, thousands of successful clients, and have written a few nutrition and diet books :)
Will I be hungry?
Not at all! You don’t have to starve yourself to see results. In fact, my philosophy is that if you are hungry all the time, you can’t be successful. I have a number of strategies that help you feel fuller, longer and that will make you not need to eat between meals.
Can I drink alcohol?
That obviously depends on your situation but I don’t restrict clients that can and want to from drinking. I may ask you to reduce or even change your drink of choice. Remember: we make this plan work for your lifestyle, not the other way around.
Do you accept insurance?
Depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to use your out-of-network benefits. After you start your program with me, I will provide you with a coded bill which you can submit to your carrier for reimbursement. I do accept HSA and FSA cards.
I am not an “in-network” dietitian though. Why? My focus is on providing a highly personalized and comprehensive service to each of my clients. This level of service involves significant one-on-one time, frequent (often daily) communication, and tailored support that goes beyond the typical scope of what insurance companies cover. Insurance imposes restrictions on the types of services I can offer, how often I can meet with and the amount of time I can spend with clients, and even how I can communicate with clients. By not being “in-network”, I have the freedom to design and implement a program that is truly customized to meet your specific needs, without the limitations or constraints of insurance policies. This ensures that you receive the best possible guidance and achieve lasting results. Of course, this means I am more expensive than a generic in-network dietitian but if you’re looking for a bespoke, concierge-like experience and a proven track record, let’s talk.
Which areas of nutrition and diet counseling do you specialize in?
I primarily help women lose weight, plan and manage nutrition during and after their pregnancies, and provide nutrition and diet coaching to women entering or in perimenopause and menopause.
Do I need to see a nutritionist near me?
No. You need an experienced professional who will create a personalized plan, coach you through it, hold you accountable, and be available wherever life takes you. My clients love the convenience, speed, and effectiveness of video and text communication.
Can I meet with you in person?
Trust me. I love people and human contact! However after many years of offices and consistent feedback from my clients that working with me via video and text is more convenient and effective than in person, I decided to change my format to be exclusively remote. I get (and respect) that some people want face-to-face. If that’s you, I’m not the best fit.
Are there any types of clients you do not work with?
I do not counsel people with eating disorders. In cases like this, I believe the best outcomes happen when the practitioner and the client are face-to-face.
